RESORT STYLE, MULTI GENERATION SINGLE FAMILY
UNITED STATES
The building integrates and layers a variety of functions and the lifestyle of three generations within three main volumes. The parent’s, children, and in-law wings are separated but connected through secondary volumes, which employ a modified vocabulary and also host other functions. The glass foyer with a custom floating staircase is a double level connection and a pivoting point between the main functions of living-dining-cooking at the first level and adults-children’ s bedrooms on the upper level. The one-story pool cabana is a concealed connection between the main house and the in-law coach house.
Orthogonally, the two main wings are visual connections between the front, formal garden, and the back landscaped pool area. Both of the main wings connect to the back with a semi-exterior space. On the south end, it is a glass enclosure, on the north end, a heated screened porch. Relation to nature is encouraged in all seasons and weather conditions.
A basement and sub-basement host spaces that are central to the multi-generational daily life: a squash court, gymnasium, and spa. The wine cellar and game room. The sunken garage with boat dry-docking slip.
Geothermal energy was used to heat the driveway as well as the car and boat garage and lower basement sports court.
The landscaping and hardscaping are a transition between the interior, exterior and surrounding natural environment.
